LIVE MUSIC MAY 08
sun 4 lunchtime
Bayou Seco

Every day the post brings enough so-called 'Americana' to fill a big bucket - so it's a pleasure have some 0f the real stuff, and deeply researched too: Deep South down-home, and acoustic. Also one of the friendliest (that's what our transatlantic cousins do best) bands ever.

Mon 5
Professor NoHair & the Wiglifters

The redoubtable Mr Palmer in his third-line gig (after playing implausible oldies to celebs and showing implausible tricks to kids...) but you wouldn't tell, he's a natural at this one too. Piano trio groove with a smattering of boogie to keep you on your toes... and there's André too...

Wed 7
Smerin’s Anti-Social Club

One of the greatest band names in these parts, but, tell the truth, it's a little redundant by now: such is the infectiousness of their brass and bass heavy groove that by the end of the set, everyone's in the club. Simply Phenomenal.

Sun 11 lunchtime
The Groanbox Boys
One of the most fascinating groups to visit us over the last few years just got more so, with the addition of a third member. It's blues, but blues like Waits or even Beefheart sees it, dark and more than a little slinky. Don't miss.

Mon 12
The Chicago Music Explosion Tour

Featuring Green Tara from Vancouver and Hovercraft Pirates from Londonderry.
Every visit of this crazy party package has been a winner with us, it really is a brand you can trust. And it all runs on vegetable oil...

Wed 14
ShakShak

The sun's out, so it's about time for the Spring ShakShak gig. Doubtless more danceable and probably a bit more chaotic than Su's gig a few weeks ago: acoustic reggae, afro, calypso even. The festivals start here.

Sun 18 lunchtime
Adrian Byron Burns

By hanging out with Bill Wyman and the like, ABB is becoming respected as the classic he always should have been. A phenomenal soul singer and a just-right guitarist: seen in this context it's a supreme musical experience.

Mon 19
The Shrinks

Also heading for classic status, but a bit further back on the starting grid still, this is deeply classic songwriting with a dad-rock flavour but none of the lazy clichés that usually hides. Buy the album, it's worth your time.

Wed 21
The Cedar

Arguably (but who's arguing?) the most individual and imaginative band treading these boards, blending acoustic sounds with a post-Indie songwriting sensibility and a gentle sense of humour. Expect them to make a huge surge in popularity over the coming festival season, get in now to ensure those memories.

WALCOT INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Sun 25 lunchtime
Childe Roland

Old favourites from the '80s Bath Trash City scene, and part of the last wave of acoustic & nu-folk, reborn: and just as imaginative as ever, if their brief appearance at the sell-out Jonah gig earlier this year was any indication. Could be special.

Mon 26
The Jazz/Reggae Sessions

Craig Crofton, Guy Calhoun; omigod... Flash, of all people... If ever a band demands to be heard on the lineup alone, this is it (not forgetting Jonny Henderson on Hammond & Desmond 'The Rock' Rogers on drums). And the concept is every bit as good as you might think

Wed 28
The Glitzy BagHags

These girls & guys have played every great party going in these parts - Fringe, Walcot Day, Glastonbury, Sunrise, you name 'em - but unaccountably NOT t'Bell. This must be - and hence is - remedied. Accordions, cheesegraters, silliness, tunefulness.

and coming soon to walcot, in JUNE
Tafanari, Kevin Brown & Eddie Martin, The Manfredi Funk Initiative, Walcot Nation vs. The Beatles, Kampec Dolores (Hungary).
